Catfish Alliance is without a doubt, the most innovative group in North Florida’s thriving Sex Rock Scene. Well known in the Southeast for debaucherous live shows and their provocative hype man “The Sexual Manatee,” the group continually pushes the envelope of social grace with heartfelt passion. The Catfish Alliance is a mind grape concocted from deep within the loins of the Sexual Manatee’s dirty desire to showcase his internationally acclaimed dance prowess. That the group formed at all is a small miracle, this is their story.
In the early ‘90’s, Sex Manatee was a heralded high school athlete lettering in eleven varsity sports, named as an All American in seven sports and courted by many of collegiate football’s most storied programs. The hype surrounding this young man grew with every crushing block he laid on the gridiron and a professional football career seemed to be a sure shot. Sex Manatee’s athletic career took a dramatic turn towards the weird during an official visit to the University of Nevada Las Vegas when it was revealed that he’d blown a quarter of a million dollars in booster money at Exotic Dance Clubs, Casinos and All You Can Eat Seafood Buffets in a single weekend.
The fallout from this scandal was amplified the next week during a live interview on ESPN when Sex Manatee revealed two of his deepest and darkest secrets. First, when asked about the negative press he’d received since the scandal broke, Sex Manatee revealed that he was functionally illiterate. And even more shocking, his revelation that from an early age he’d been inappropriately touched by a love of dance. In the years that followed Sex Manatee poured his soul into his art, eventually studying modern dance at the Julliard Academy in New York where he completed his doctorate degree in 2000. After a triumphant run as a choreographer with Cirque du Soleil, Big E returned home to Tallahassee with the intention of merging his love of dance with his love of rock with his love of sex.
This heated three way of passions impregnated the Sex Manatee deep within and in 2005, he gave birth to the Catfish Alliance, a four-headed monster providing a soundtrack for body rocking, sex rocking and partying profusely. In 2010, Catfish Alliance recorded its debut album at Nashville’s legendary Blackbird Studios. The album “Sex Manatees and Rock & Roll,” is slated for release in the Summer of 2011 and a follow up is currently in the works.
